Insider: Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date. Live Pictures and Pricing.

Glashütte Original reveals the fascinating art of fine mechanical replica watchmaking with a new chronograph movement designed and hand-crafted entirely in its own manufacture in Glashütte, Germany. The new Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is powered by the new in-house automatic calibre 37-01 column wheel chronograph and available in two different metals with a case measuring 42 mm in diameter and 14 mm in thickness. These two replica watches are available in either platinum or 18K red gold. While the ref. 1-37-01-02-03-30 features a platinum case and a hand-finished silver dial with Roman numerals and tachymeter scale, the ref. 1-37-01-01-05-30 is fitted with an 18K red gold case and a lacquered silver grained dial with Roman numerals. Both replica watches are fitted with an elegant alligator strap —black on the 18K red gold model and dark blue on the platinum one— with folding buckle and equipped with display case backs that allow for uncompromised view of this new and nicely decorated movement.

The perfectly balanced dial on these two replica watches features a running seconds register with integrated power reserve indicator aperture at 9 o’clock, 12-hour chrono register 12, a 30-minute chrono register at 3 and the classic panorama date aperture at 6 o’clock. The biggest difference outside of the obvious variation in the finish of the dials between these two replica watches, is that the 18K red gold model lacks of a tachymeter scale and its Roman numerals appear to be larger when compared to the platinum model. Frankly, these two replica watches should’ve had the tachymeter scale as there is clearly a big difference between their metals and therefore, no specific need to differentiate one from the other via the different dial. It’s not like one was stainless steel and the other platinum or white gold, hence the need to differentiate both via their dial.

The case features a satin brushed finish on the case band while alternating polished and brushed areas compose the lugs. The bezel is highly polished and perfectly contrasting against the matte case band finish. The replica watch features rectangular pushers to activate the chronograph and a very timeless designed case that flows quite nicely and in which the platinum model is fitted with a crown topped with a blue sapphire. The crown is nice and solid and very easy to manipulate. Additionally, a corrector is found on the case band at 11 o’clock to ease the date setting operation.

Turning the replica watch over reveals a wonderful treat for the eyes as the display case back allows for full view of the new in-house calibre 37-01 in its fully glory. This new calibre also shared by the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date in its variant as 37-02 features a flyback reset mechanism, 65 jewels and provides a power reserve of 70 hours. The exquisitely finished movement includes the traditional Glashütte Original three-quarter plate with stripe finish, swan neck-fine adjustment, skeletonized rotor with 21K gold counterweight, screw balance with 4 adjustment screws made of 14K gold, polished/blued screws, bevelled/polished edges and polished steel parts.

On the wrist the replica watch wears slightly larger due to its thick construction but very comfortable. This new Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is sure to be a success based on its revolutionary calibre, superb craftsmanship and well balanced design. This exceptional chronograph is a perfect example of the quality of timepieces manufactured under the rigorous standards set centuries ago in the replica watchmaking heart of Saxony.
