Insider: Breguet Classique Extra-Thin Tourbillon Automatique ref. 5377. Exceptional Just Like the Father of the Tourbillon.

This year at Baselworld 2014, Breguet introduced eight new timepieces including the new ref. 5377 Extra-Thin Tourbillon Automatique available in either 18K rose gold ref. 5377BR/12/9WU or in platinum ref. 5377PT/12/9WU. Today, we bring you our hands-on review of this exceptional timepiece with these incredible images under natural light that we captured just for you. This new extra-thin tourbillon has already been included in the pre-selection for the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève here and is now regarded as the world’s thinnest automatic tourbillon movement. This new replica watch featuring all the traditional Breguet elements, seems to be one of the top contenders for one of the prizes to be awarded on October 31st at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. As you all know, Abraham-Louis Breguet was the father of the tourbillon in 1795, and this replica watch honors his groundbreaking creation in a flawless manner.

The Breguet Extra-Thin Tourbillon ref. 5377 features an 18K gold silvered dial with four different guilloché patterns, hours chapter ring with Roman numerals, 90-hour power reserve indicator at 9 and tourbillon carriage with seconds register between 5 and 6 o’clock. The exceptional dial delicately finished as only Breguet knows how to, features the DNA characteristic of timepieces from this manufacture. With its secret signature at 12 o’clock and its iconic blued open-tipped Breguet hands, this timepiece is beyond beautiful.

The new Breguet Classique Extra-Thin Tourbillon Automatique ref. 5377 is fitted with a delicate case measuring 42 mm in diameter and only 7 mm in thickness. As you can appreciate in the picture below, the replica watch is quite thin and delicately finished with the traditional fluting along the case band. Rounding out the elegant look of this timepiece, the Breguet Classique Extra-Thin Tourbillon Automatique is fitted with a supple brown alligator strap with the classic Breguet triple-blade folding clasp.

The beating heart inside this magnificent timepiece is the newly developed Breguet extra-thin automatic movement with tourbillon calibre 581DR —only 3 mm thick— that is fully visible via the display case back. This calibre with 42 jewels, silicon escapement, peripheral oscillating weight  and anti-magnetic properties provides an outstanding power reserve of 90 hours when fully wound. The calibre 581DR is extremely nicely finished and very pleasing to the eye.

On the wrist, the replica watch wears smaller than its actual size and extremely light due to its thinness. The wrist presence is extremely elegant, therefore, not a timepiece that would look good while dressed down. This extra-thin automatic tourbillon will be one that for sure will receive a prize at the upcoming edition of the 2014 GPHG. Stay tuned for the news when and if it does.
