The Hublot MP-02 Key of Time Gold ref. 902.OX.1138.RX is a magnificent timepiece with a design that could’ve been conceived as a prop replica watch for a Sci-Fi movie but that for some weird reason is just simply spectacular. Fitted with a massive asymmetrical case in 18K Hublot gold —red gold—with a satin brushed finish and micro-blasted areas, its case measures close to 52 mm in width at its widest point and weighs 315 grams of pure Hublot goodness. Even though you guys know that we hate making comparisons between brands, this is one of those instances were we have no other option but to say that the look of this timepiece is highly reminiscent of those timepieces created by MB&F or maybe even URWERK. This is a timepiece that could easily fit within the creations of some of the most renowned independent replica watch houses and one that is definitely a winner in our book.
The Case & Dial
Thick, massive and extremely robust, the case of the Hublot MP-02 Key of Time Gold houses the amazing manual-wound calibre HUB9002 composed of 512 parts and which provides a power reserve of 5 full days —120 hours. The MP-02 Key of Time Gold is fitted with a multi-layered matte black dial with satin-finished and microblasted gold-plated appliques with red luminescent material and microblasted black nickel-plated hands also with red luminescent material. The dial, with its clean Sci-Fi —and somewhat industrial looking lines— features a power reserve indicator, vertical running seconds —visible via a small window at 6 o’clock— and slowdown/speedup indicators that turn green when activated.
The Crowns
Fitted with two crowns, one on the left side to slowdown or speedup the movement and the one on the right side to wind and set the time, all we can say is that this timepiece is just spectacular with its vertical flying tourbillon visible at 6 o’clock through a beautiful circular opening.
The Movement
Equipped with a sapphire crystal display case back with anti-reflective treatment, the nickel black coated movement with its 74 jewels, beveled with drawn rims and circular grained recesses is fully visible via the opening and is a real treat for the eyes. The vertical flying tourbillon visible via the circular opening at 6 o’clock is beyond mesmerizing.
The Strap
Fitted with a comfortable black rubber strap with deployant buckle, the replica watch sits on the wrist extremely ergonomically. The rubber strap is very smooth, almost as if it was a silicone strap and not a rubber one. The strap is equipped with an 18K King gold and microblasted black PVD titanium deployant buckle. The strap is fully integrated to the case and wraps around it almost as a protecting guard around the whole perimeter of the case band. Its ergonomic design helps the strap wrap around the wrist just like a glove.
