There are still a quite a lot of new replica watches and watch brands being launched. Many of them do so with the help of Kickstarter. REC Replica Watches isn’t any different and after earlier successful launches they came up with another pretty cool idea and interesting design. Something you might like when you have a thing for cars also. We’ve seen them do other car inspired replica watches before. So after the Mini Cooper and Ford Mustang they’ve now taken a lot of design references from the legendary Porsche 911 for their new REC 901 Collection.
Each replica watch comes with a piece of metal from an actual car and the matching vehicle identification number is engraved as a detail. Ever since our first Kickstarter, we’ve been working to perfect what you’re about to see!
Finally we’re delighted to present a collection which features handmade materials, high quality components and a design that pays tribute to the timeless car-design originally created by Ferdinand Porsche.
The reason behind choosing the 911 to form the backbone of our newest collection was not just due to it’s incredible legacy. Having received more than 6,000 votes on our website poll, the 911 emerged as your clear choice of car! You voted, and we listened!
Very few cars possess the kind of legacy the Porsche 911 does, and the following hardly scratches the surface of the rich backstory and pedigree of this fantastic vehicle. For a fuller history of Porsche and the 911 we highly recommend the works of Brian Long and/or Karl Ludvigsen.
The 911 itself traces its roots to sketches drawn by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche in 1959, son of Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche. The Porsche 911 was developed as a more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for the Porsche 356, the company’s first consumer car.
Almost immediately after it went on sale in September 1964 (as a 1965 model) the 911 established itself as an icon of ‘60s cool. Then it segued gracefully into being an icon of ‘70s performance, then an icon of sophistication and affluence in the ‘80s, followed by becoming an icon of athleticism and power in the ‘90s and is now simply the definition of German sportscars manufacturing.
Did we make a typo in the name? Not quite!
Similar to our previous timepieces, we wanted the name of this collection to be a significant yet subtle reference to the car from which it was made.
The origin of this name goes all the way back to the 1964 Paris Auto Salon, where the very first Porsche 901’s were presented, intended as the successor to the legendary Porsche 356. There, French car maker Peugeot objected to Porsche using any three-digit number where the middle number was 0, asserting ownership of the naming rights in key markets, having already sold many models with that naming scheme.
So, Porsche simply replaced the middle 0 with a 1, and called the car Porsche 911.
We found this story too good not to include, so we named this collection the ‘901’!
The REC 901 collection isn’t just a pretty face! Though that face comes directly from the bodywork of salvaged Porsche 911’s beyond repair and the design pays homage to the subtle references to the legend from all eras, the 901 Automatic is packed with loads of little extra touches. On top of having a dial made from recycled salvaged Porsche 911 wreck, The REC 901 Automatic is PACKED with small, discrete references to the car!
Exclusively wrecks and salvage cars that are BEYOND REPAIR are used for these replica watches.
As a result, every single replica watch we have ever produced, and will ever produce, is entirely visually unique in it’s appearance, due to the variations of patina in the recycled replica watch dials.
That means, even if you own two replica watches of the same model, there will still be visible differences between them – and forms a big part of what we consider to be the charm of owning a REC 901 Replica Watch!
Every single replica watch is engraved with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the salvaged 911 from which it was made!
But we didn’t stop there. With every replica watch comes a scan-able Story Card – which is both NFC and QR compatible – taking you directly to a video documenting the stories, anecdotes and origin of the specific car which became part of your replica watch! That’s right; we’ve carefully identified and spoken with as many of the former owners we could find, in order immortalize the car which soon will be on your wrist!

The 901 Collection is powered by a top-tier movement; the Miyota caliber 9100.
Produced by the world-renowned Miyota company from Japan, the 9-series represents their top series of movements. The 9100 movement is an order-only movement, ensuring that the movement in your replica watch is 100% NEW and not bought through a movement broker as sometimes seen with automatic movements. Yep, you would be surprised by how this industry sometimes works.
